All About Me

What?

For this project, I created an "All About Me" digital collage using photographs that represent the people, places, and experiences that have shaped my life. Rather than relying on written descriptions, I used carefully selected images to tell my story and communicate my identity. This project demonstrated how technology can be used as a creative tool for visual storytelling and personal expression.

So What?

This project aligns with ISTE Educator Standard 2.6a: Facilitator, which encourages educators to foster student ownership of learning. Activities like this allow students to make meaningful choices about what they share and how they represent themselves. Rather than completing the same assignment in the same way, each student creates something that reflects their own identity, interests, and experiences.

Completing this project also changed the way I think about communication. I realized that simple images can tell powerful stories without many words. As someone who works with young children, English language learners, and students with diverse needs, I recognize that visual communication can remove barriers and help students express themselves in meaningful ways. Technology provides students with opportunities to share who they are while helping teachers and classmates build stronger relationships and a deeper understanding of one another.

Now What?

Although my current PreK Counts classroom has limited technology resources and many of my students' families primarily speak Spanish, this project inspired me to adapt the idea rather than abandon it. At the beginning of the school year, I would love to have students create personal collages using family photographs, drawings, or dictated responses to introduce themselves to the class. This activity would help me learn about each child's background while strengthening relationships with students and families.

If I return to an elementary classroom, I would also try collaborating with the STEM teacher to create digital versions of this project. Most importantly, this experience reinforced my belief that technology should be used to give every student a voice and create opportunities for meaningful connections within the classroom community.
